Participant pool
Take part in research at the Behavioural Research Lab
The Department of Economics runs studies on how people decide: about money, risk, trust, information and each other. Sessions are short, they are paid, and they run on campus. Register once to join the pool, then pick a session time for any study you are eligible for.
What taking part involves
What happens in a session
- You arrive at the lab at your booked time and show your student or photo ID at check-in.
- A research assistant gives you an information sheet and takes your written consent. You can read it and ask anything before you agree.
- You complete a task on a computer, usually decisions with money at stake. Most sessions run between 30 and 60 minutes.
- You are paid at the end, by UPI, and you sign for it.
- You can stop at any point and still receive the show-up payment. Nobody will ask you to justify it.
Before you register
Who can join
- You are 18 or over.
- You can travel to the Bangalore Yeshwanthpur campus for a session.
- You can read and follow instructions in English. Some studies also run in Kannada or Hindi.
Individual studies set their own criteria on top of these, for example an age band or a particular course of study. The system tells you which studies you can take once you have registered.
The rules of the pool
What the lab asks of you
The waiting period exists because somebody who played one decision task last week arrives at the next one already knowing its shape, and that changes the result. If you cannot make a session, cancel it on this site and it does not count against you.

Register for the participant pool
This puts your details on the lab's register. It does not book you into anything. Once you have registered you will see the studies you can take and can choose a time.

Withdraw from the pool
This releases any seat you hold and stops the lab contacting you about studies. Your details stay on the register as a withdrawn record unless you ask the lab to erase them, which you can do at any time and without giving a reason. See how the lab handles your data.
